This sight is not new to anyone who lives around here. To the folks in other parts, I give you this sign. On my three block walk from work to lunch, these were everywhere. I never thought walking outside was such a death hazard. When the conditions are right (a windy, rainy or warmer day after snow) this shit flies. Sometimes, I'll look up and see something floating in the air. It looks cool for a few seconds until it hits the ground with a loud crack. That's when you realize...keep your head up.
This begins the second Thursday feature: Stuff I see. I go to work. I work in a city. I walk on the sidewalks from point A to point B. I say this because I grew up in a suburb where people walking on the street got the suspicious eye. I think I was about eight years old when my Mom frantically called the house and told my brothers to lock all the doors and stay away from windows. It happened to be night and she saw people on foot delivering circulations...but they freaked her out. Hence walking in a city will always have novelty.
I was standing on a street corner tonight. It snowed pretty hard tonight and slush was everywhere. Well, a car was approaching, I saw my buddy start to jump back...and well....you can probably guess what happens next.
