The Leap Day where We Turned the Corner

Looking at the weather forecast this week, we see that temperatures will stay well above the teens for a few days. This is good. Nothing beats a sunny, warm late-winter/early spring day. You're more likely to do something outside because you finally have the chance to not wear a coat. Kids and dogs were everywhere. Cars were being washed. Everybody seems ready to crawl out of their caves. All good things.

- Quinn turned twenty-five and had a party for it on Friday. He had T-shirts made with the phrase 'Win with Quinn'. Designed by Steve Sleeve, this shirt looked like a political poster if it were made by Steve. The 'man-of-the-future' party favor was a nice touch. Those around us looked at the shirts and gave a strange look. Those with us acted as if nothing was different. As of the time of publishing this, I can't find my shirt. I'm sure I came home with it.

- After 2am, we closed off the evening at a Jazz club. I don't know why I never went to this place until now. I guess that when I thought of Jazz Clubs, I thought of a smoky bar with pimps and old people smoking cigars. The concept didn't appeal to me. Instead I found a pretty relaxed place. Everybody was having a good time and hot girls even show up. Attractive girls who like jazz? I once used the jazz angle to woo somebody. Hmmm....

- Seeing live jazz again gave me flashbacks to playing Hancock's 'Chameleon' in middle school Jazz band. We probably sounded like hell, but it didn't matter. We discovered jazz. The next time any of my band-geek friends comes to town, I'm taking them there.

- This building is fairly quiet and peaceful. The horribly low occupancy rate in this sixteen story building gave me the feeling that I was always the only person in the building. I kind of liked that feeling. Today seems to bring in a new era. I saw more people moving in today than I ever have. I could be wrong, though. This is the only last day of the month I've been around for. While the prospect of meeting a flirty neighbor appeals to me, I'm not looking forward to the constant rooftop traffic around my apartment. Oh well, this was bound to happen.

- I went back to the parent's house yesterday. When I got home I stepped out of the car, walked around the driveway, and took a deep breath. I think the spring-ish smell of my neighborhood is one of my favorite of all the odors. It is both sentimental and invigorating. On days like this, my buddy Danny and I would play basketball on the driveway for hours on end. Early spring was always the only time of the year we would do things outside. I think spring is my favorite season of the year.

- Speaking of Danny, we hung out last night and watched Blind Date. This was out of necessity. We were treated to a 'weekend edition' where 'anything goes'. One date featured two little people. They went to a trapeze place and learned how twirl and stuff. No. I am not making this up. The guy was really low key and laid back. Somehow I identified with this guy. The woman was touchy feely and pretty much declared that she will sleep with him as soon as the date started. The guy refuted all attempts. Somehow I identified with this guy. I was waiting for the camera to show a scene where someone would shout: "FREAKS!", but it wasn't to be. I guess I wish the world to be mean. Either way, that's what I call entertainment.

- Things always get better for me when spring rolls around. I've had a pretty good year so far. One can only wonder what lies ahead.
